Counterfeit purchased in the Dominican Republic
Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, who makes the real Dominican La Gloria Cubana, gave us these shoddy fakes and was suitably horrified. The bands have been made -- and made poorly -- on some type of color copier. The colors are faded, and the band has no texture. The cigars themselves appeared crude with shabbily finished caps and substandard wrapper leaves. The boxes were made of some type of wallboard that had been covered with what appeared to be genuine La Gloria labels. The pirate who made the cigars, however, used a Corona Gorda label on one side of the box and Charlemagne on the other.
